Mark Zuckerberg has declared Facebook’s plan (which is still in the making) to bring internet to the five billion people around the world who do not have access to it.
Big names like Samsung, Opera, Nokia, and Ericsson have teamed up to join the alliance between Internet.org and Facebook to continue the globalization process marked by internet connectivity. The developing world will namely be their focus.
Zuckerberg recently stated that he is aware of the difficulties they may face in trying to achieve this goal due to the obstacles developing countries face in connecting or being a part of the web trend.
He also said that even though the plan is not concrete yet, the key objective is to have internet services brought to mobile phones at lower costs by simplifying mobile applications.
In parallel, mobile networks can be more proficient by being able to broaden their scope on a global level. A significant part of the plan is encouraging the decrease of prices of manufacturers and carriers.
Facebook has placed high hopes for Internet.org’s ability to help efficiently bring about this revolution, per say. Those who once could not dream of affording internet and having it close to them, may now have a shot at it.
Since mobile traffic is consistently on the rise, this proposal is aimed namely towards mobile devices, for now. If it goes through, Facebook will perhaps have some new users.
